Ruto leads Cabinet meeting at State House.

President William Ruto on Tuesday chaired a high-level Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi, underscoring the government’s continued focus on regional stability and diplomacy. The session was significant not only for its agenda but also for marking the first Cabinet appearance of newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries—Hanna Cheptumo, in charge of Gender, and Geoffrey Ruku, responsible for Public Service. Their presence highlighted a renewed energy and direction within the Cabinet as the government navigates complex domestic and international challenges.

A central item on the agenda was Kenya’s diplomatic engagement in the ongoing Sudan conflict, which has caused severe humanitarian and political instability in the region. The Cabinet deliberated on Kenya’s role in peacebuilding efforts, particularly through diplomatic and consular missions aimed at fostering dialogue between warring factions in Sudan. President Ruto reiterated Kenya’s historical position as a peace broker in the region and its readiness to support sustainable solutions that uphold human dignity and regional security.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was also in attendance, reinforcing the importance of a unified executive approach to foreign policy and conflict resolution. Discussions emphasized Kenya’s active stance on the issue, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issuing a strong statement: “Kenya will not remain passive as the conflict persists.”

The ministry urged all parties involved in the Sudan crisis to commit to a peaceful resolution, warning that continued violence poses a grave threat not only to Sudan but to regional and global stability. Kenya reaffirmed its commitment to working with international partners under the framework of the United Nations and the African Union to silence the guns and restore peace.

“The international community holds a fundamental responsibility, as outlined in the United Nations Charter, to safeguard human life and property. This duty extends to actively working toward the prevention and resolution of conflicts, ensuring that violence is brought to an end and that peace is promoted across the globe.”
