Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has announced plans to reintroduce the Linda Mama programme with improved benefits.
On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, PS Muthoni stated that the maternal healthcare programme will return under its original name but with added benefits for expectant mothers.
She emphasized that Linda Mama will be a key component of the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which will replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
“This will be a stand-alone program under SHIF, just like it was before, to support mothers and babies,” she said. PS Muthoni explained that the updated Linda Mama programme will cover both normal and caesarean deliveries.
She added that the programme will also include post-delivery care for mothers.
“For normal delivery, the benefit will be Ksh.11,000, while for caesarean delivery, it will be Ksh.32,000,” PS Muthoni detailed.
The PS mentioned that funds have been allocated for the enhanced programme, and efforts are underway to secure additional funding as the new budget process begins. She also noted that there is ongoing public participation, allowing Kenyans to provide their input on the revamped Linda Mama programme.
