The stakes couldn’t be higher as Police FC and KCB FC prepare to clash in the FKF Cup final on Saturday at 2 PM at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. Both teams are vying for a chance to make history by securing a spot in continental football.
KCB FC reached the final after a dramatic 4-2 victory on penalties against Kariobangi Sharks, following a 1-1 stalemate in regular time. On the other hand, Police FC clinched their place by narrowly defeating AFC Leopards 1-0.
Salim Babu, head coach of Police FC, is determined to lead his team to their first-ever continental appearance. “Our main target from the start has been continental football. We must overcome KCB first before we think about that. This final is an opportunity to showcase Police FC’s progress,” Babu stated.
KCB FC’s head coach, Bernard Mwalala, aims to lift the trophy to redeem what has been a challenging season for the Bankers, who finished in tenth place. Mwalala, who previously won the Cup with Bandari in 2019, is confident in his team’s ability to replicate his past success. “We’ve had a tough league season, but we’re focused on winning this Cup to reward our sponsors and secure a spot in continental competition. Our goal is to utilize these 90 minutes effectively and claim the title,” Mwalala emphasized.
KCB goalkeeper coach Samuel Okoth “Koko” echoed Mwalala’s sentiments, urging his team to stay focused and aware of the threat posed by Police FC. “Qualifying for this final is a significant achievement for KCB as we aim for our first-ever trophy. The team must remain focused and wary of Police FC. Winning this match will grant us an opportunity to participate in continental football next season,” said Okoth.
KCB will face a challenge as they miss key players Brian “Rio” Ochieng and forward Derrick Otanga, both suspended due to yellow card accumulations. “Despite their absence, we have prepared well with all players understanding the importance of this match. I believe they will step up,” Okoth added.
Goalkeeper Farook Shikhalo is set to start for KCB, replacing Gabriel Andika, with Haniff Wesonga expected to lead the defense against Police FC.
The winning team not only claims a cash prize of Sh. 2 million but also earns the chance to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
The day’s action will kick off with AFC Leopards facing Kariobangi Sharks in the third-place playoff at 11 AM, followed by the highly anticipated final between Police FC and KCB FC at 2 PM.
