The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of a section of the Nakuru–Kampi ya Moto (B17) road due to a sinkhole that has caused significant traffic disruption.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, KeNHA confirmed that the unexpected collapse of the road surface had led to the disruption and urged motorists to exercise caution.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has identified the location of the traffic disruption on the Nakuru–Kampi ya Moto (B17) road, which is caused by a sinkhole. The affected area is located specifically at Kiamunyi, near Riva Petrol Station, approximately 1.5 kilometers from the KFA Roundabout.
KeNHA has confirmed that maintenance work is currently underway to resolve the issue and restore the road to safe conditions. In the meantime, the agency is advising motorists to adhere to the temporary traffic management plan put in place to ensure the smooth flow of traffic around the affected area.
To minimize disruptions, KeNHA urges all travelers—particularly those heading to and from Nakuru, Eldoret, and Baringo—to use the diversion routes provided by the police and traffic marshals stationed on-site. These diversions are essential to maintain free movement of vehicles while repairs are being carried out.
For the safety of all road users, motorists are urged to approach the affected section of the road with caution. They should strictly follow the traffic signs posted along the route and comply with instructions from the police and traffic marshals present at the scene. KeNHA also emphasized the importance of community cooperation to ensure that traffic flows smoothly and without further incident during this maintenance period.
