Huawei ICT Competition Roadshow Launches at University of Nairobi with Over 250 Students

Nairobi, October 17, 2024 – The Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 kicked off today with its first roadshow event at the University of Nairobi, attracting more than 250 students. The successful launch marks a significant step in fostering interest in ICT education and innovation in Kenya.

Key speakers at the event included Mr. Paul Kariuki, Director of the ICT Center at the University of Nairobi, Mr. Michael Kamau, Head of Huawei ICT Academy in Kenya, and Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, Director of Public Affairs. They emphasized the importance of nurturing Kenya’s future ICT professionals, with competitions like this playing a crucial role in advancing technology and skills development.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Paul Kariuki highlighted the competition as an opportunity for students to improve their skills in cutting-edge areas like cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and networking. He also praised the university’s collaboration with Huawei for providing top-tier training and support to prepare students for the digital world.

Mr. Michael Kamau urged students to leverage the Huawei ICT Academy programs and competitions for career growth, emphasizing the value of certifications and practical experience. “It’s encouraging to see more students getting involved and preparing themselves to drive Kenya’s digital transformation,” he stated.

The roadshow will continue from October 18 to October 25, 2024, visiting universities such as Zetech University, Kenyatta University, Multimedia University, Embu University, and Dedan Kimathi University. The competition is targeting over 7,000 participants nationwide, making it one of Kenya’s largest student-focused ICT events.

Students will compete in tracks including Network, Cloud, Computing, and AI Innovation, with the competition also serving as a platform for showcasing Huawei’s latest technologies. The national finals are scheduled for December 2024, followed by regional and global finals in February and May 2025.
