Nairobi, Kenya – October 2, 2024 – Huawei ICT Academy successfully hosted an instructor workshop today at its offices in Lavington, Nairobi. The event brought together key instructors and stakeholders from across the country, creating a platform for sharing knowledge, discussing program updates, and planning the future of ICT education in Kenya.
Ms. Fang Zheng, Huawei’s Human Resource Director, officially opened the workshop, emphasizing the academy’s critical role in bridging Kenya’s ICT skills gap. She underscored the importance of continuous professional development for instructors to ensure a high standard of ICT training.
“We believe in empowering instructors with the tools and knowledge needed to produce world-class ICT talent. Today’s workshop is a testament to Huawei’s long-term commitment to digital education in Kenya,” Ms. Zheng stated.
The first session, led by Mr. Michael Kamau, Huawei ICT Academy Manager, and Mr. Yuta Leng, Public Relations Expert, provided an in-depth review of the academy’s progress over the past year. The discussion highlighted Huawei ICT Academy’s growth, achievements, and upcoming plans, including the 2024-2025 Huawei ICT Competition. This competition aims to foster innovation and technical skills among Kenyan students, with a focus on preparing participants for the opportunities and challenges of the digital world.
Huawei announced that the 9th Edition of the Huawei ICT Competition is open for registration. Interested students can participate in the Practice Track (Network, Cloud, and Computing) or the AI Innovation Track. Participants will receive advanced training and access to an e-learning platform in preparation for the national final in 2024, and subsequently, regional and global final rounds in 2025.
This year, Huawei also launched an Instructor Competition designed to gather innovative experimental cases that integrate key technologies such as AI and Cloud. The competition aims to promote excellence among instructors, set global benchmarks, and enhance motivation for partner instructors, thereby advancing ICT Academy operations.
The workshop also included a review of the academy’s key performance indicators (KPIs) from the last quarter and a preview of the upcoming academic calendar. This review was crucial for evaluating the academy’s impact on Kenya’s ICT talent development and setting clear targets for the year ahead.
Participants were treated to a presentation on best practices for managing professional exam centers, focusing on the Huawei Certified ICT Professional (HCIP) and Huawei Certified ICT Expert (HCIE) certifications. These globally recognized certifications are vital for individuals aspiring to advanced ICT careers, and the presentation provided valuable insights into optimizing exam processes, maintaining high standards, and boosting student success rates.
Following the presentation, an open discussion was held, with attendees exploring ways to further enhance the quality of education provided by the academy.
The workshop is part of Huawei’s ongoing efforts to support the development of ICT education in Kenya. Since establishing its first ICT Academy in 2017, Huawei has worked closely with Kenyan academic institutions to build a strong talent pipeline. The program has expanded significantly, training thousands of students and instructors and providing access to Huawei’s cutting-edge technology and expertise.
The workshop concluded with acknowledgments of the participants’ contributions and a call for continued collaboration between Huawei and local educational institutions to foster a robust ICT ecosystem in Kenya.
