Health Ministry Launches New Campaign to Combat Malaria in Western Kenya

The Ministry of Health has launched a comprehensive campaign aimed at reducing the high incidence of malaria in Western Kenya, where the disease remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. The campaign, titled “Malaria-Free Western,” was inaugurated in Kisumu by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, who underscored the government’s commitment to eradicating malaria.

The initiative will focus on the distribution of 3 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets, indoor residual spraying in high-risk areas, and extensive public education on malaria prevention and treatment. The campaign will also include training for community health workers and partnerships with local health organizations and international bodies like the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Community involvement is crucial for the success of this campaign,” said Kagwe. “We are mobilizing all available resources to ensure that no child or adult succumbs to this preventable and treatable disease.”

Local leaders and health experts have welcomed the campaign, which they believe will significantly reduce malaria cases and improve overall public health in the region. The campaign is part of a broader strategy to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of ending malaria by 2030.
