Five Killed in Protests Over Land Demarcation in Narok

Five people, including a teacher, were shot dead on Monday in Ang’ata Barrikoi, Kilgoris, Narok County, following a violent confrontation during a demonstration over land demarcation. The protest, which centered around the division of a 6,000-acre piece of land in the region, turned chaotic when police attempted to disperse the protesters.

According to reports, tensions had been rising among local residents who opposed the land demarcation process. As the protests escalated, police were called in to manage the crowd, but their intervention sparked violent clashes. In response to the presence of law enforcement, protesters became increasingly agitated, and some torched vehicles that had transported government officials to the area for the demarcation exercise.

As the violence intensified, gunfire erupted, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including a teacher. In addition to the fatalities, seven others were injured during the unrest and were rushed to Ang’ata Level III Hospital for medical treatment. The injured victims, whose conditions remain unclear, were reportedly in stable condition.

The tragic incident has raised serious concerns about the handling of land disputes and protests in the region. Local leaders and residents have called for an immediate investigation into the deaths, while demanding accountability for the use of force by law enforcement during the demonstration.

The land demarcation issue, which has long been a source of tension in Narok County, continues to be a contentious subject for many residents. The government has not issued an official statement regarding the events, but the situation remains tense as authorities work to manage the fallout from the deadly clashes. Local leaders are calling for dialogue to resolve the land dispute peacefully and prevent further loss of life.
