The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the Coast region has seized bhang worth Sh16 million and arrested four suspected drug traffickers. The operation took place on Friday in the Fisheries area of Bamburi, Mombasa County.
Acting on a tip-off from vigilant citizens, DCI detectives were able to locate the suspects’ hideout. “Responding to a tip-off from vigilant citizens, detectives located the suspects’ house and while therein conducted a meticulous search that unearthed cannabis sativa,” the DCI stated.
The search revealed a substantial haul of 554.05 kg of bhang, which was packed in eight green polythene gunny sacks, eight multi-coloured Nigerian bags, and one white polythene bag.
The four suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation carried out by detectives from the anti-narcotics unit Coast region, RCIO coast operations, and officers from Bamburi Police Station. A vehicle believed to be used in the trafficking operation was also impounded.
The suspects, along with the seized narcotics, were taken to the Coast Regional Police Headquarters for further legal action. “We have detained the four suspects, the narcotics, and a motor vehicle we believe was used in crime at the Coast Regional Police Headquarters,” the DCI indicated.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region, with community cooperation playing a crucial role in these successes.
