Kivutha Kibwana Urges Azimio Leaders to Stay Out of Gen Z Movement

Former Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana has called on Azimio leaders to refrain from involving themselves in the Gen Z movement, questioning their role in a revolution initiated by the younger generation.

In a post on X, Kibwana expressed his concerns: “Why does Azimio believe it will solve the problems raised by Gen Zs by engaging the government while the aggrieved party is Gen Z and the rest of Kenyans?” He emphasized the importance of Azimio avoiding interference, noting, “The Political Class aborted Mau Mau of the 50s and the NCEC of the 1990s. The Gen Z Movement is our only hope for peaceful change.”

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna also commented on the situation, acknowledging that Gen Zs have declared themselves partyless and leaderless, including distancing themselves from Raila Odinga. Sifuna clarified, “Baba (Raila Odinga) did not say he was going to speak on behalf of Gen Z. Gen Z said they are leaderless, and he is not their leader. But Baba has people he is leading, not everyone is leaderless or partyless.”

This discussion comes as President William Ruto and Raila Odinga agreed to commence a six-day multi-sectoral forum, set to begin today, July 15, and conclude on Saturday. The forum aims to foster national dialogue and seek lasting solutions to Kenya’s pressing issues.

Ruto emphasized the forum’s importance, stating it will propose the way forward for the country. Raila reiterated the significance of dialogue, saying, “Dialogue is the way forward out of the crisis we’re having in our country. We have agreed that we give people an opportunity to be heard, to express themselves so that a lasting solution can be found.”
