Former Cabinet Secretaries Remain Silent 72 Hours After Dismissal Amidst Coup Allegations

It has been 72 hours since they were pushed from the fold to the cold, joining the ranks of millions of jobless Kenyans. Apart from their farewell messages on social media, the former Cabinet Secretaries have remained silent as their former boss, President William Ruto, begins the process of hiring a fresh team.

According to former Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management CS Moses Kuria, the dismissal of the Cabinet was inevitable, claiming the events leading up to their sacking were part of an attempted coup against President Ruto. “Some people who were in this government were attempting a coup. We know some people like a hyena who saw the hand swinging they thought it was gone, and they took advantage of the Gen Z there. This was a clear failed coup,” Kuria stated in an exclusive interview with Citizen TV on Sunday.

Kuria revealed that internal conflicts had made it difficult to conduct government business effectively. “We had our problems, even to have a Cabinet committee was a problem, and we needed to give the president a chance to reconvene his cabinet,” he explained.

Despite facing corruption allegations over the importation of edible oils, Kuria maintains that the process was legitimate. “For the last two years, edible oils have remained at 50% of what they were before,” he said.

Although Kuria refrained from naming his colleagues, he expressed admiration for the Gen Z demonstrators, acknowledging their impact. “I’ve been calling them the generation of Uber and fish fingers. They have proven me wrong. Now the Uber and the fish fingers people have shown me they can take this country forward. If I had a wish, I would want to be a Gen Z,” he remarked.

Reflecting on the online trolls mocking his job loss, Kuria said, “Some people are enjoying that I was fired, yet they also don’t have jobs. They ridicule me, but I’m not crying in a corner. I’m a global person.”

As President Ruto plans to form a broad-based Cabinet, Kuria supports the inclusion of opposition members. “I support the government of national unity. If I get a chance to serve in the cabinet again, I won’t mind coming back, but if I don’t, so be it,” he concluded.
